DC Row at The Wharf DC – Ready to Row You into Shape
DC Row, located at the DC Wharf, is a pioneer in sport-specific fitness and community-building. If you are looking to switch up your workout routine, row on over to DC Row for the newest take on high intensity, low-impact group workout training.
The coxswain (the instructors) all hail from rowing backgrounds and will help you perform the proper technique for the optimal workout. You think runners are intense? Saddle up on one of the twenty rowers for a regatta workout without ever leaving port.
Luckily for the neighborhood, the classes are for all ages and skill levels with an introductory 2 for 1 deal ($35) and packaged pricing from 3 classes for $100 up to $400 for unlimited. Beginners can experience rowing at the introductory level in the Crew Clinic class. Row Flow and Scull + Sculpt are for all level oars-people, whereas Strictly Row is recommended for the intermediate to advanced crew.
DC Row provides complimentary water and towels, because, well, this sport is sweaty. Two private unisex toilets and shower stalls are available for the ‘row and gos’. There are storage areas for personal belongings, and the doors to the studio are locked during classes.
Defined as a “boutique style” fitness studio, this location at The Wharf is the flagship studio owned by a Washingtonian. Once you meet the instructors, it is clear that the focus is community. Fitness is fitness here, and DC Row wants the neighborhood to be in it.
The studio hosts a monthly Heroes Row, where every third Saturday of the month all active duty military, first responders and federal employees row for free in any class that day. Every fourth Friday, seniors (65+) row at any class at no cost.
The studio has plans to connect with inner city children to teach rowing and swimming to less-served students. Earlier this month, DC Row with Fox 5 held a live broadcast with Fox 5 DC to row for a cause benefitting Safe Shores, a nonprofit who works with and advocates for children and adolescents in the District of Columbia that are affected by trauma and violence. What a great reason in addition to your own fitness to get ‘ready to row’.
