Easy Company to Usher in A Rosé Development at Wharf DC

Last summer, Monty Hoffman, co-developer of District Wharf, announced “a casual family wine bar” was in the works. Hoffman said he envisioned a concept to what “you see in Umbria or Tuscany, or maybe Provenance…just a small, sort of village-like cafe, not uppity at all, just house wines.” 

That vision will become a reality this summer with the opening of Easy Company, a new wine bar to open in a 5,000 square foot space adjacent to The Grill. One feature already getting buzz is the bar’s “Rosé Garden”, a 1,500 square foot outdoor patio space dedicated to all things Rosé and Frosé.  The concept is being adapted, with permission, from the now closed Rosé Garden at Navy Yard.

The concept is the brainchild of Ryan Seelbach, CEO & Founder of Better Hospitality Group (BHG), which is in the process of opening Boardwalk Bar & Cafe at the Wharf in the old Anchor location next to Ben & Jerry’s. Seelbach was tapped to bring the wine bar to life as a result of his connections to France and Italy where his family has a home and where we worked for a summer in a vineyard, respectively.

The wine bar will feature a list of wine selections red, white, bubbles and sangria that can be ordered by the glass, half carafe, carafe or bottle. Craft beer, cocktails and a food menu will also be available. According to Eater DC BHG executive chef Julio Estrada is working on a menu to include “drinking snacks, small plates, and heartier entrees like steak frites and a lamb shank.” Easy Company will also host a bottomless brunch. 

Easy Company will have a European inspired beer menu in addition to a weekday happy hour where patrons can find $8 wines, $7 beers.  

“We feel that, with good food and good wine, that will lead to easy company in general…I think there’s a huge need at The Wharf for a neighborhood gathering place with a wine focus,” Seelbach told Washington Business Journal.
