Something for Everyone at Rock the Dock

The District Wharf has launched its free summer concert series featuring the sounds of Motown, Americana, R&B, Jazz, Reggae, Go-Go, and Country. The “Rock the Dock” concerts are held on the Wharf stage at Transit Pier next to Cantina Bambina every Wednesday from 7pm – 9pm.

An on-site bar will be serving beer, wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages to be enjoyed during the concert. For those wishing to make a picnic, guests are welcome to bring food from nearby restaurants including Union Pie, Fat Fish, Grazie-Grazie, Surfside and others.

The 2022 music line up has a variety of locally based acts that will make the mid-week jam session fun for the whole family. Concert series highlights include:

La Unica – this band takes music fusion to a new level as they combine Irish folk with Latin beats. Their shows are upbeat, fun, and a little mind blowing.

Jimi SmoothEveryone needs some Jimi Smooth!  The Wharf will be rocking when Jimi Smooth and Hittime take the stage.  Expect a dose of rock, blues, and soul from the Rolling Stones to Wilson Pickett during this performance….and bring your dancing shoes.

U.S. Army Band  – The United States Army Band, also known as “Pershing’s Own”, is the premier musical organization of the United States Army, founded in 1922. Before 2002, the United States Army Band was the only Washington-based military band to have participated in a theater of foreign combat operations. This band is super talented and will certainly bring energy and patriotic feels to the District Wharf.

Brent & Co.This band will bring country vibes combined with reggae, pop, and rock all in one show. Vocalist Brent Peterson’s voice is reminiscent of artists from Luke Bryan to Michael Stipe. In 2018 the band released a collection of songs in celebration of the Anacostia River to raise awareness for “the vibrant communities of wildlife and residents that call its shores home.”

The GoJo ProjectClosing out the summer concert season in style will be the JoGo Project. Keeping Go-Go music alive with a twist of Jazz harmonies, the JoGo Project is a hometown mainstay on the music scene.  Saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed played with Go-Go Godfather Chuck Brown while he was still enrolled at Howard University in 2011 until Brown’s death in 2012.
