See DC Like Never Before from a Sailboat

A new opportunity to enjoy extravagant cuisine upon a luxury sailboat will soon be available from the District Wharf. Troy Knapp, a member of Capital Yacht Club, and an award winning chef and sommelier, is launching his latest venture, “Sip and Sail”, aboard his 47 foot sailing yacht, Cru Classé.

Knapp offers guests two distinct experiences. The first, Dock and Sip, is a 1.5 hours “in slip” wine experience with light bites al fresco aboard Cru Classé, while she’s docked at the District Wharf. The yacht will be tied to the Market Docks, so guests will have views of the Washington Monument and in perfect position for glorious sunsets on the Washington Channel.

Knapp says that the “Dock and Sip” experience is best for those “looking for a completely unique al fresco dining experience for intimate celebrations, or after work gatherings.

It’s a great idea he says to “host clients in a unique/luxury setting or for wine lovers looking to expand their knowledge and experience.”

The “Cast Off” experience allows guests to enjoy a cruise on the area waterways for 2-4 hours during an evening sunset, weekend brunch or special occasion/cherry blossom cruise aboard Cru Classé. Basic packages include light bites such as grilled and chilled seafood appetizers, and hand-crafted charcuterie for sunset cruises, and Danish pastries with lemon Chiffon cream, blueberry powder and basil with grilled pork belly for brunch cruises.

Knapp is expecting the “Cast Off” experience to be a big hit with those looking to “celebrate an engagement, an anniversary, a birthday, or a special occasion in true luxury.”

Both experiences include a food menu from which guests must choose. The “SEA” menu features grilled, chilled & raw, local Chesapeake inspired. Whimsically presented – aerated smoked trout dip, oysters with mignonette pearls, scallop crudo with cherry blossom shoyu, citrus grilled shrimp with barrel aged Worcestershire aioli, and seasonal market “fresh catch” selections.

The “FARM” menu includes artisanal charcuterie and cheeses accompanied by gourmet accessories. A 17 pedestal dish displays selections such as hand crafted cheese “coral”, lomo Ibérico, smoked tea mustardo and much more.

Knapp has partnered with local restaurateurs to curate a simple yet meaningful wine program. Guests can choose from Prosecco or prestige Champagne as well as classic Sancerre and Provence Rosé to enjoy during their Cru Classé experience. Professional photography is also available for an additional fee.

Pricing for the in-slip experience begins at $95 per guest, and the Cast Off package begins at $400 per person. The sailboat can accommodate 4-6 guests. Bookings for Cru Classé begin on March 18 and will be available daily through the summer. Dock and Sips are available at 4pm and 9:30pm daily, while the Cast Off is available daily at 11am or 6:30pm.

Cru Classé is an elegant 2016 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469 (47 feet) sailing yacht from the design cabinet of Philippe Briand. The open cockpit accommodates up to six guests for an intimate experience on the waters surrounding Washington, DC all the way into the Chesapeake. Knapp adds,  “whether you’re looking for an afternoon cruise or a getaway for several nights, Cru Classé provides stylish comfort with incredible accommodations to evoke lasting memories.”
